Lake Lucerne (Lake Lucerne) – a lake in the central part of Switzerland. The name is due to the fact that in the past on the shores of the lake was located four canton: Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden and Lucerne. Later Canton Unterwalden was divided into two half-cantons (Obwalden and Nidwalden), but the name of the lake has not changed. Along the shores of the lake are famous mountains Pilate and Riga. The lake has four swimming pools, connected by narrow straits.
The basin of the lake was formed by ancient glaciers, down from the mountains.
