The city began to develop rapidly after the Second world war, when there were discovered deposits of sulfur. In 1975, Tarnobrzeg became a major industrial center, but in the 90s the sulfur mines has virtually stopped.
Tourists can see in Tarnobrzeg unique architecture, discover the history of the city. In the Baroque Church of the Dominican monastery of the seventeenth century is the icon of the Mother of God Dzikovsky. From here starts the małopolska way of St. James. In Dzikovsky the castle currently houses the exhibition of Historical Museum of Tarnobrzeg. Special attention deserve the Gothic Church of St. Mary Magdalene, built in the fourteenth century.
