Szombathely, the ancient city of Hungary, located in the Western part of the state at the foot of the Alps. In the literal translation of its name means “Sabbath place,” and alludes to the fact that in the old days there were often large-scale fair.
The population of the city amounts to little more than eighty thousand inhabitants. Its rich historical past and unique architectural monuments attract tourists from all over the world.Among the most ancient city relics include the ruins of the Roman Savaria. Its ruins are located in the center of Szombathely in the Egyptian garden, which received a second name – Garden of ruins.
Discovered here the remains of ancient buildings archaeologists refer to I–IV centuries ad, while Walking around the garden, tourists can see the ruins of the Palace of the Emperor, the sanctuary of mercury, the instruments of the ancient workshops and the wreckage of the ancient public baths.
