Otepaa – a city without municipal status in Estonia, in Valga County, the center and an integral part of the parish of Otepää. It is known as an international center for winter sports and tourism, where the qualifying rounds of the European Championship and World Cup.
Otepaa has the unofficial title of the Estonian winter capital (as opposed to Parnu – “summer” of the capital).
In Otepaa is a ski center «Tehvandi Sport Center», which regularly hosts sports events: in particular, in 2010 and 2015 the city became the venue for the European Championships Biathlon.
In Otepää you can practice many winter sports: cross-country skiing, ski jumping and speed skating. In Otepaa lives and trains Kristina Smigun-Vahi – two-time Olympic champion in cross country skiing.
