Niigata – Prefecture, located in the Chubu region on Honshu island, Japan. The administrative center of the Prefecture – the city of Niigata.
Niigata – one of the largest prefectures of Japan, it is the largest in Japan, the number of Shinto shrines. It is the birthplace of the patron saint of the samurai Uesugi Kenshin. Modern Niigata is famous for its popular ski resorts (Myoko).
In Niigata Prefecture celebrate many local festivals. So, the festival is held in Sado Island during April, during which sound the drums and dancing procession passes. 7-9 August is celebrated the feast of Niigata Matsuri. These days the city sneaked Mikos portable shrine, and also runs a dance procession. Concludes this festival a spectacular fireworks display.
