In XVI-XVII centuries passed and the grand royal falconry on the site of today’s park, where the place got its name.
“Leisure and tourism in the park of culture and recreation, museums, parks and museums, mansions, 2012-2016” February 2, 2011 the project of the city program was approved by the Government of Moscow. In connection with the implementation of this program in the “Sokolniki” park started to be carried out work on the reconstruction and improvement. Under the program, 4.5 billion rubles were allocated for the park from the city budget.
In August 2011, the new director of the park was appointed Andrey Lapshin.
The program has been landscaped park area, updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, were replaced the asphalt pavement on sidewalks tiled. They were restored open-air cinema and the summer theater, the “Big rosary”, a large outdoor swimming pool. There were playgrounds, zonal extreme park, skating rink and bicycle paths.
By 2016, the “Sokolniki” park is to become one of the most important holiday destinations of this format in Europe.
