Monbetsu – city in Japan, located in the district governor Abashiri, Hokkaido. The city’s population is 23 843 people (30 June 2014), and the density – 28.70 people / km².
The city is located in Hokkaido, Hokkaido Government, near the place where Sёkotsu river flows into the Sea of Okhotsk. With him Okoppe border villages, Takinoue, Engaru, Yubetsu.
Most of Monbetsu’s economy is dedicated to fishing for cold-water species such as crab. The crab from Monbetsu is reputably the best in Japan, and is such a source of town pride that a sculpture of a crab claw nearly 10 m tall was built on the waterfront.
