Hemnes is a municipality in Nordland County (fylke) in Norway. Is part of the historical region of Helgeland. The commune’s administrative centre is the village of Kargino
The lake Røssvatnet (Winesense language: Reevhtse) is a lake and reservoir partial located in the municipality of Hemnes; the lake was a human Parking lot since the stone age. The water surface area of 219 km2 lake and is the second largest lake in Norway.
The old municipality of Rana was divided into municipalities of Sør-Rana and Nord-Rana in 1839. In 1844, Sør-Rana was renamed Hemnes. Korgen was separated from Hemnes of July 1, 1918. The new commune of Sør-Rana and Alsford was separated from Hemnes July 1, 1929. (After this the municipality of Hemnes only consisted of one village Hemnesberget). Morgen and Ser-the Wound was again attached to Hemnes January 1, 1962.
