The eruption of the eyjafjallajökull volcano in southern Iceland began on the night of April 14, 2010 From the disaster zone were evacuated about 800 people. April 15 due to emission of volcanic ash, a number of countries in Northern Europe were forced to close airports.

Some of the largest ice caps – Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull in the South, covering active volcanoes.

The eyjafjallajökull volcano is located 200 kilometers East of Reykjavik, between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Myrdalsjokull.

Eyjafjallajökull means “Island mountain glacier. The glacier conical shape, the sixth largest in Iceland, covering an active volcano. Height of the volcano is 1666 m. the diameter of the crater is 3-4 km, the glacier covering about 100 sq km Eyjafjallajokull the Last eruption was in 1821.

Icelandic scientists have long observed the volcano, tracking the signs of seismic activity.
