Where there is a historic train station should be a Museum of railway memorabilia. Budapest is no exception. The city is absolutely unique Museum of railway transport, it presents not only the history of the development of the railroad, starting in 1850-ies, but available and all sorts of attractions for adults and children. In addition, it is the largest railway exhibition in Eastern and Central Europe.
The history of the Museum began on 22 November 1999, when the site of the old station with lots of hangars was given to the Museum. The Museum was financed by the Ministry of transport and waterways, MAV Nosztalgia Ltd and other divisions of MAV. After 8 months of work, the first interactive railway Museum in Europe was opened on 14 July 2000. The exhibition featured more than 100 railway vehicles and equipment on the territory of more than 70 thousand m2.
