Birkirkara is a city founded in the Middle ages, is currently the largest in area and most populated in Malta. It is home to about 25 thousand people.
Birkikara became the birthplace of several Maltese politicians, including the first President of the Republic Anthony Mamo. The city is one of the economic centers of Malta, but it retains outstanding historic sites.
One of the historical landmarks Birkikara – long arch construction of the aqueduct, built in the XVII century. It was named in honor of the Grand master of the order of Malta Wignacourt.
Another feature of the city – a station without a railroad. In the first half of the last century the route of the railway across Malta, was dismantled as unnecessary, and the station building in Birkikara became part of the public Park.
