It is located on a rocky Peninsula 850 length and a width of 300 metres. Today Nessebar is under the aegis of UNESCO and included in the list of world cultural heritage. Just on this tiny Peninsula of 42 Byzantine churches survived eleven (two of which are dated to the end of IV – beginning of V century). Employs ethnographic and archaeological museums, a brisk trade small shops, restaurants and outdoor cafes by the sea and serves delicious fish.
You can go in a more distant travel — the city of Sozopol, which is absolutely not inferior to the beauty of Nessebar. Or visit the Ropotamo reserve and ride along the same river. The surrounding resort features a large number of monasteries associated with the history of the Bulgarian state. A few kilometers from Sunny beach is the field where Bulgarian Khan Asparukh defeated the Byzantian king, and with this site, the construction of the Bulgarians land of their future state.
Near the site of this historic battle, near the town of Pomorie is located only in the South-Eastern part of Bulgaria active monastery “St. George”, built in the VII century on the site of a Thracian sanctuary. Therein lies the miraculous icon of St. George.
