Rovaniemi – a city and municipality in Finland, the administrative center of the province of Lapland and the province of the same name since 1938. After the merger in 2006 with Rovanieminskim rural municipality of Rovaniemi became the twelfth largest city in Finland and the largest inland city in Europe.
Rovaniemi is located 8 km south of the Arctic Circle, at the confluence of two major northern rivers – Ounasjoki and Kemijoki. Distance to Helsinki – 800 km, to St. Petersburg – 1025 km. Rovaniemi – the largest city in Europe in terms of area 8016 square kilometers, due to the inclusion of the city nearby farms.
