Redcar and Cleveland (eng. Redcar and Cleveland) is a unitary administrative unit in the North-East ceremonial County of North Yorkshire. Its administrative center is the town of Redcar.
Established on 1 April 1996, by transforming in a unitary unit and the transition in the ceremonial County of North Yorkshire the district of Redcar and Cleveland the former Shire County of Cleveland . Covers an area of 245 km2, is bounded to the northeast by the North sea, bordered to the East and South of the Shire County of North Yorkshire, in the West with a unitary unit of Middlesbrough and the ceremonial County Durham. On the territory of the unitary unit of live 139 132 people, with an average population density of 568 people/km2 (2001). Largest city — Redcar (population of 36 thousand people).
The Council’s unitary unit of Redcar and Cleveland consists of 59 deputies elected in 22 districts. In the last election 32 seats in the Council belong to the labour party
