The town of Mikulov is situated in the south of Moravia, is considered one of the most picturesque, but as yet little-known cities of the region. Mikulov and its mighty castle situated on a hill in the heart of the wine region of Palava, a recognized UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Mikulov has many impressive monuments of architecture and history, but the most popular for its excellent white wines.
Mikulov Castle, towering over the western part of the city, has been painstakingly rebuilt after the fighting of World War II, during which it was almost completely destroyed by the Nazis.
Castle Museum has a fine collection of local archaeological finds, paintings and weapons, exhibits of traditional crafts and winemaking. In the basement of the castle is located the biggest wine containers in central Europe.
