Joensuu – the city and the community in the east of Finland on Lake Pyhäselkä in the system of lakes Saimaa. The administrative center of the province of North Karelia.
The city was founded in 1848 by Emperor Nicholas I. Joensuu – a city of young people, a third of its population – students. Perhaps due to this, there are often hosts music festivals, which bring together the spectators not only from Finland, but also from many other countries.
The most famous of them – the annual rock festival Ilosaarirock, as well as a festival of folk music Kihaus. But apart from music events in Joensuu is where to go and what to see.
