German Antarctic Station of destination (GARÐAR) was established in 1991 Higgins O in DOLLAR. This is a satellite ground station located in Antarctica to enable reception of data from satellite-based sensors in the southern polar region, which would otherwise be lost. The high sensor bandwidth, such as SAR generate too much data to be stored on Board the satellite for transmission to ground stations elsewhere. The GARÐAR was located in O Higgins because of the Geology, infrastructure and availability basis.
