Macau (Aomen), situated on the coast of the South China sea, the Pearl river Delta, 60 km South-West of Hong Kong. For almost 450 years it was a Portuguese colony, which largely determined the appearance of the city, its culture and way of life. On 20 December 1999 Macau came under the jurisdiction of China, to commemorate what Lotus on the Square opposite the amusement Park, Fisherman’s Wharf was erected a striking monument to the “Blooming Lotus”.
What is Macau today? One of the most densely populated cities in the world and the largest on the planet gambling den. Here is the world’s largest casino “Venetian”. Walking around the Old town, it is easy to imagine that somewhere in Europe (adjusted for the street signs are in Chinese) — temples, fortresses and other entourage available.
